"Imagine Plus One," a benefit for the UNICEF effort in Haiti.
Xiren has been one of those "Man! Why aren't they more famous?" bands in the top echelon of the Colorado music scene for some time now. They have done some serious touring nationally and internationally and had a lot of very enviable successes over their career including having their songs being played on MTV, VH1, the TV show Scrubs, and a certain VW commercial that I won't mention cuz you'll start humming the song and twelve hours later send me a "I can't get this song out of my head!" hate mail. Which neither of us wants to happen. So needless to say Xiren has had a stellar career but the one thing that was lacking was that one massive hit. Which all changed a few months ago. But more on that later.
Xiren the human being is a pretty interesting dude all onto himself. For one he's a ninja. Not like the term I use at the coffee shop to thank my barista when he hands me my morning antidote. Not as in: "Thank you! You are a total ninja!" No, Xiren's a real ninja. Xiren is a Shodan in a traditional style of Japanese Ninjutsu. Which in laymen's terms means I better write a good article about him or I will wake up with one of those metal ninja claws stuck in the side of my Airstream as a warning. Xiren also does yoga. He does yoga about as much as I do "awake." Xiren and his wife celebrated New Years Eve this year by teaching a yoga class to a few hundred students. I'm pretty sure that says it all. Add on top of that some musical mastery and you get some insight into the man that is the band that is Xiren.
Speaking of the band. Xiren is made up of some very respected nationally recognized musicians. Jay Ruybal on drums, Jake Goldman on guitar, and Rich Ross on bass. Rich Ross (Who is known for his work with The Samples and Mathew Moon.) had this to say about working with Xiren: "I love playing in a band that gives 110 percent all of the time. The band as well as Xiren really does understand how to rock live without compromising the articulate nature of the songs." Photo: Tahvory Bunting.
So what's the hit song? Well you've probably heard it on the radio and it's called "Ship of Fools". It has reached #8 on the American charts. But the real story of the tragedy, corruption and hardship that brought Trip-R about is here, in my exclusive interview with Xiren for adobeairstream.
